A City for Robots in the Age of Limitless Demand and Consumption of Goods is a concept for a self-sufficient automated system for producing energy and goods for the city of Naples. The project is conceived as a city inside of a building — a city built by and for machines, based on their operating system, dimensions, footprint, movement and energy consumption. The project uses parametric design to produce a dynamic urban layout defined by a circulation grid that is interrupted by voids shaped according to the machines’ various modes of production. A City for Robots... imagines an urban design not centred on people and instead driven by the continued acceleration of automation in industries.
Camilla Franchini is an Italian architect born in New York City in 1993. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Design from the Politecnico di Milano. She studied in Valencia for 6 months on the Erasmus program and interned with Caccia-Dominioni Zucca, an interior and architectural design firm in Milan. She also worked at Baldasso Cortese Architects in Melbourne Australia where she focused on private residences. After working on different architectural scales, during her Master in Advanced Architecture at IAAC (Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalunya) she discovered her passion for urban design and urban installations. She graduated from IAAC in June 2018.more
