Physical interface for using Photoshop

Artifact is a digital sketching board that offers a middle ground between analogue feel and digital function. The device is composed of a large ‘pad’ surrounded by function panels. The pad recreates the familiar surface of the sketchbook, with its off-white colouring, immediate response and practical use. The function panels allow a level of digital interaction usually associated with technological equipment, such as saving and loading, editing, variable brushes and layers that can be separated. Artifact questions the move towards entirely digital surfaces, reminding us of what’s worth saving from our analogue toolkits.
