About

Bioengineering solution to detect and degrade air pollution

BactAir is an innovative solution addressing environmental pollution caused by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), toxic by-products from industrial combustion. Utilising advanced biological engineering, BactAir has designed a synthetic system for PAH detection and degradation in Escherichia coli. The system activates a metabolic pathway when exposed to PAHs, producing a fluorescent protein as a biosensor. The project integrates catabolic enzymes for PAH breakdown and incorporates a mathematical model to validate its effectiveness. BactAir serves as both a biofilter and biosensor, offering a sustainable method to combat PAH pollution.

I am currently a student with a passion for biotechnology, especially synthetic biology. I'm a member of an investigation group from my university and the team leader of it. My job there is to make documental investigations and research to find biological solutions to diverse problems. I’ve participated in entrepreneur contests, science fairs, and general environmental contests. As a team, we won second place in the Mexican Fair of Science and Engineering and also a certification for the national contest. I believe that everyone can think of brand new ideas and everyone is capable of making them come true. more

I am in the bilingual high school program at Preparatory School No.2. I am a member of the Chemistry representative team, participating in competitions. I participate in various workshops such as Orchestra and Model United Nations (MUN). I am a Taekwondo athlete and a member of the school's Chess team. I am also part of the HS2 research team at iGem, where we are developing a biofilter for HAPS called 'BactAir.' We are open to hearing from experts in these areas for feedback that can help our research team progress and contribute to making the world a healthier place with well-founded steps more

Within the framework of my French progressive baccalaureate program, I actively participate in both biology and chemistry teams for academic competitions. Moreover, I am a part of the HS2 research team at iGEM, where we have developed a HAPs biofilter called "Bactair." My commitment extends beyond current achievements; it encompasses the continuous pursuit of opportunities to expand and enhance our project to address significant environmental challenges. We are interested in collaborating with experts, securing financial support, and expanding our impact. I am excited about future prospects and the potential of our innovation to protect the environment. more

I am a bilingual student from Preparatory 2 (UANL), I have been part of many workshops and have achieved multiple achievements throughout my stay at the institution that have ranged from the academic, cultural and linguistic fields. I am a member of the HS2 UANL team where we work with genomic biotechnology to solve local environmental problems in search of contributing to improving the environment and leaving a mark on our municipality. I have had the opportunity to develop my investigative, social and analytical skills, since this project is multidisciplinary and represents an important stage of growth for me. more

As a bilingual baccalaureate student I aspire to become someone that helps to develop new technologies that will make a better environment for us to live in. I am particularly interested in mecathronic engineering as a career but I have a general interest in different STEM fields, and I also enjoy learning new languages such as french and german. Trough this time in which we worked to develop our project I have participated in different contests and feries, such as the mexican science and enginering ferie in which we acomplished a national acreditation. more
