About

Smart irrigation monitoring, reducing water waste in rice cultivation

Boro Bandhu, a smart water monitoring device for rice cultivation, combats over-irrigation, offering a real-time management solution. Designed after observing Boro rice farming water wastage, it addresses India's groundwater crisis. Each rice kilogram consumes up to 5000 litres of water. Solar-powered and SIM-card equipped, Boro Bandhu measures water height in fields, sending timely notifications to farmers if levels surpass set limits. The smartphone app visualises water levels; SMS in local languages aids those with limited connectivity. For durability, it is protected by a robust shell, is waterproof, and employs locally sourced components for easy repair.

I am an Industrial Design student looking forward to design and develop products for the Next Billion Users. The harmony in the chaos and diversity of my country has always intrigued me. The way Resilient people in countries like India make the most out least, really inspires me to come up with new ways to make our daily experiences. I wish to Design for the grassroots and reach as many people as possible. I am looking forward to opportunities to get involved with new projects in those lines. This project was a steeping stone and there’s a long way to go. Excited for road ahead more
