Bug A Boo

About

A self-imposed virus to stem internet addictions

Online services and applications are designed to be as frictionless as possible, encouraging constant use through convenience and a promise of instant gratification. Many of these habits have become too easy to resist, with people spending hours on their phones despite knowing that it will be an unrewarding – and sometimes harmful – experience. Bug A Boo is a self-imposed and irrevocable virus that is installed onto the user’s phone to stem internet addictions. The virus releases four digital characters onto the user’s screen if too much time is spent on certain applications. Loud, colourful and deliberately vulgar, the four characters remind users of the absurdity of spending too much time online, and questions the relationship between technology and human desire.
