Autonomous, electromotive forms of transport are currently primarily being developed for the road. However, many cities would benefit from applying these technologies to their waterways, as such services could easily be linked up with existing public-transport infrastructure on land. CAPTin_Kiel proposes two models of autonomous water transportation, each responding to different design priorities. One is a floating observation platform – offering speed, elegance and enjoyment – while the other takes the form of a mobile bridge, safely and reliably linking different parts of the city. Both concepts show how new forms of vessel could become part of urban mobility chains, acting as practical and elegant solutions to the needs of future cities.
