# 2019 Holowave |
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a disease that causes the death of neurons controlling voluntary muscles. Patients eventually lose the ability to speak or smile, but their brain activities are the same – meaning that they are trapped in a body that no longer allows any form of expression. Holowave uses brain–computer interface technology, a neural network system, deep learning and face recognition to allow ALS patients to escape this situation The device captures brain transmissions through a wearable device, which then projects the user’s face as a hologram in front of them to show their emotions.
