Involuntary Pleasures

About

Home electronics that insist on interaction

Involuntary Pleasures is a four-part series of electronic products that require physical interaction for engagement, creating chemical changes within users’ brains, to trigger feelings of delight and happiness. Victory Alarm Clock, to turn off the Victory Alarm Clock the user must hold the two actuators and adopt a victory pose, increasing testosterone and reducing cortisol. The Hugging Toaster requires the user to embrace it with a hug for the duration of cooking, increasing levels of dopamine and serotonin. The Smile Telephone uses facial metrics scanning to determine that a user is first smiling at their reflection in order to make and receive calls. The amplified and distorted reflection of the Reflective Mirror offers a moment of meditative contemplation.
