Loom is a smart label system that creates new value for used clothing by giving each piece its own digital identity. The project establishes a commercial ecosystem that consists of a smart label using an NFC chip sticker, an in-shop experience using a smart hanger with NFC reader, and a mobile app. With the mobile app, a garment’s current owner can read about the piece’s history and add to its story. The smart hangers make this history instantly visible when shopping. In this way, Loom attempts to advance sustainability in fashion by encouraging reuse and mindful consumption through the creation of value for pre-owned items through a sense of history.
