About

A graphic exploration of non-violent protest in Palestine

Palestinian resistance to occupation is often depicted through scenes of violence – yet for many, resistance is actually experienced through the continuation of day-to-day activities. ‘Mlazgeen – Resistance through Tradition’ is an exploration of passive resistance through the continuation of Palestinian wedding traditions, presented as a publication and short experimental film. Drawing parallels between rituals such as dough sticking and the common image of Palestinians throwing stones during riots, the project contests common media preconceptions of Palestinians’ experiences of occupation and sheds light on non-violent forms of protest.
