# 2020 monolith |
Inspired by a study looking at the effects of light pollution on telescopes, Monolith is a street lighting solution that aims to have minimal impact on its surrounding environment. The LED light modules are made from concrete. The design includes a cut-out slot on the angled surface at the bottom, with a minimally recessed light which focuses the source towards the ground in front of it, whilst making space at the top for a small solar panel. This powers a small milli-power radar system, SWEEP, that ensure the units only light up when required by an approaching individual or moving object.
