MYKO

About

The world's first fungi furniture

MYKO is a technique for creating furniture from mushrooms. The project explores the potential of reishi mushrooms, a strain frequently used for its medicinal qualities, but that also possesses structural qualities that can be used in construction. The density of the reishi’s root structure creates a strong and flexible skin that is both water and fire resistant. MYKO combines a material produced from reishi mushrooms with beech wood to produce a series of experimental and entirely biodegradable furniture pieces.
