NOAA POR

About

Clean the ocean and save the oil

NOAA POR is a ground-breaking filtering device for treating oil spills. Subsurface crude oil severely damages ecosystems, and current oil spill clean-up methods do not allow for the recovery and use of spilt oil. NNOAA POR proposes a Pelagic Oil Recovery (POR) system that is able to responsibly and effectively purify ocean water afflicted by oil spills while preserving the integrity of the collected oil for reuse. Employing the emerging technologies of magnetically charged iron-oxide nanoparticles and smart filters to separate the water and oil, POR protects the affected ecosystems rather than simply removing oil without regard to the environment.
