# 2019 Runtu Laqu |
Eating ceviche (a South American dish of marinaded raw fish or seafood) on the beach is an important part of cultural life in Lima. However, the disposable packaging currently used by street vendors poses a threat to marine life. Runtu Laqu is a disposable packaging made of waste eggshells and alginate, a natural polymer obtained from brown algae. The combination of these two materials with water, pressure and heat creates a final product that is both rigid and water-resistant, making it ideal for containing food while being completely biodegradable.
