Waft

About

A smart wearable to monitor air pollution

Waft is a sustainable wearable technology kit against air pollution. It aims to protect people who are in direct contact with air pollution on a daily level.

The main components of the kit, a pouch, sensing enclosure and mask, are equipped to feed into an app to track exposure levels of air pollution and alert the user about the condition of their locations.

I am Graphic Designer working on improving the health and well-being for those who are exposed to air pollution on a daily bases. I worked at The American University of Cairo together wit the science department and the arts department to produce a sustainable kit for protection against air pollution. My research focused on merging science with art in the form of wearable technology; I focused on how the kit would be designed for people to include it as part of their lifestyle in terms of user experience, comfort, as well as aesthetic. I also worked on using sustainable technologies, and for the first time including nano-fibers derived from plant-based sources to offer filtration against pollutant particles.more
