Yulia is a smartphone app that allows users to turn their mobile devices into a single sound system. Yulia users receive an invitation to join a specific event. The app then synchronizes all devices included in the event, so that all play simultaneously as a unified orchestra. The design also includes an amplifier that attaches to the users’ smartphones for improved sound. By providing a new way to connect people through music, Yulia gives the smartphone new, more communal and multisensory qualities.
