Sungmy Kim is an award-winning transdisciplinary designer, infusing humanity and purpose into broken systems. Based on her background in industrial design, she has been questioning a designer’s role in the social and environmental context. Instead of pursuing profitable design, she believes design could elevate unheard human needs over empathy and engagement. In her project work, she raises right questions by applying user research and design methods before diving into a solution, translating a complex issue into a tangible design outcome. Currently active in NYC, Sungmy focuses on linking social desire with private sectors to build a better future. Outside of her work in design, she performs a variety of activities including joining social movement, mentoring those who seek socially conscious design practices and sharing everyday discovery on her blog.
