HUMG was established in 1966 on the basis of the Mining and Geology Faculty of Hanoi University of Technologies. Alumni from HUMG are highly appreciated for capability and professional skills in the key sectors of the Vietnamese economy such as oil and minerals exploration, geodesy and cartography, and (underground) construction, etc.
Currently, the main campus of HUMG is located in Ducthang ward, Bac Tuliem District, Hanoi, Viet Nam. The university also has other campuses and branches located in Quangninh (the heart of the coal mining industry), Vungtau (the oil city in the south), and Danang, a beautiful central beach city of Viet Nam.
With its long history of development, HUMG is continuously developing, and dozens of new majors have recently been added to the university education programs, such as environment, software engineering, applied information technology in surveying, mining and geology, accounting, economics and business administration, etc. The Hanoi campus is being expanded to comply with the facilities of an advanced and modernized university.
The university has a total number of academic staff of 700 with nearly 80 professors, and 154 senior lecturers. With highly qualified academic staff, HUMG has built a reputation in research activities and applied knowledge in earth sciences and related areas in Viet Nam.
The university is constantly expanding its international cooperation in undergraduate and postgraduate education, scientific research, providing consultancy services, to cooperate with prestigious regional and world-wide universities in offering the educational programs in foreign languages based on advanced curricula and high quality programs.
