Tip Tap Mat

About

Tip Tap Mat is a specially designed system that allows you to unlock doors with your feet. Pressure sensors under the mat detect your movements then transmit the data to the door’s lock. When the correct combination is entered, the door is unlocked. Tip Tap Mat can be operated by everyone and is ideal in situations where the user can unlock the door without having to put down shopping bags, making it a hassle free experience.

The designers of Tip Tap Mat consist of students from Canada, Thailand, and Italy, who met and studied together in South Korea. As a result, this project is the result of a truly global collaboration. Gary Ng: Gary Ng (Canada), a game designer and programmer who is now pursuing an MSc in Industrial Design at KAIST. Punyotai Thamjamrassri: Punyotai Thamjamrassri (Thailand), an Industrial Design MSc candidate in the Human-Centered Interaction Design Lab (HCIDL) at KAIST. Giulia Scurati: Giulia Scurati (Italy), an MSc candidate in the Design & Engineering department at the Polytechnic University of Milan.
