Alternative Ecosystems

Project Overview
About
The Alternative Ecosystems project explores the possibility of using the process of seawater desalination to create an inhabitable structure. After exploring the formal and structural characteristics of materials found in the saline conditions of sabkha sites and the process of reverse osmosis desalination, the project proposes a structure that utilizes the saline water and brine produced through desalination to form salt crystals and create a periodically changing inhabitable ecosystem. The mass developed organically by this process would then be shaped to create a spatial system that can be inhabited within a structural lattice.
