Disinfectants from Waste

Disinfectants from Waste

About

Disinfectants from Waste converts waste from industrial food production into phytoextracts to create sustainable disinfectants, offering environmental and economic benefits. The waste includes broad bean shells, brewery residues, and coffee by-products. The extracts' secondary metabolites are analysed using different spectrometry and spectroscopy methods. Their antibacterial properties, especially against Listeria Monocytogenes and Salmonella Enterica, are verified through Agar plate assays and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) determinations. The project develops an aerosol disinfectant using piezoelectric technology, which is effective against bacteria, yeasts, and moulds in a controlled setting. Future plans include further testing and scaling the project for commercial production while meeting legal requirements.
