Project Overview

About

Adapting shape-changing interfaces is a technology still in its early stages of development. Pitas is an easily produced, adaptable and reactive smart material that can locally or remotely convey physical information such as shape, color, texture and temperature changes. It works by heating ethanol which in turn forces a silicone matrix to comply by expansion to reduce the pressure. Pitas can be used to create reactive oft-material systems.

HyunJoo Oh is an assistant professor with a joint appointment at the School of Industrial Design and the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology. Her work explores computational design tools that integrate everyday materials with computing and how these combinations can broaden creative possibilities for designers and learners.

Tingyu is currently a PhD student at Georgia Tech majoring in Human-Centered Computing, supervised by Professor Hyunjoo Oh and Gregory Abowd, under College of Computing. His interest is highly interdisciplinary, combining Science, Engineering and Arts, reflecting from my versatile background in mechanical engineering, liberal arts and Human-computer interaction. His research focus is on how to bridge soft active material, and sensing technology to HCI field
