Plume

Plume

Project Overview

About

Hazardous material is building up in space, posing the risk of serious damage to satellites Innovative technology consisting of a semi-permeable plume creating drag force which pushes small orbiting objects towards the atmosphere until they are destroyed. Focusing on particles too small to track by traditional radar, the plume is easily avoidable by current operational satellites due to its relatively precise orbit and low density.

I am a freshly graduated engineer from the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies with a passion for aviation and space engineering. For my master’s project I performed a feasibility analysis on a novel concept for removing small scale space debris from Low Earth Orbit. The project examines the use of a synthetic atmosphere, made up of ice crystals, to apply a drag force on debris passing through it. Currently, the project is still in the research and development phase, but I am looking for opportunities for further development.
