Misinformation has caused massive financial and societal damage, exacerbated by AI-driven disinformation campaigns. SimPPL tackles this issue by training students to develop and deploy tools to combat misleading information. These student-led innovations are utilised by global newsrooms, nonprofits, and intergovernmental agencies to enhance information integrity. SimPLL’s program includes rigorous training, hands-on projects, and mentorship, fostering future leaders in information integrity while supporting global efforts to improve trust and safety online

Swapneel Mehta

Dr. Swapneel Mehta is co-founder of SimPPL postdoc at Boston University and staff at MIT Sloan, advancing research into platform governance and AI. He is a Google Research Innovator, Belfer Fellow with the Center for Tech and Society, and a Responsible Technology affiliate at All Tech is Human. His work at SimPPL focuses on rebuilding trust in the online information ecosystem has been featured by Deutsche Welle, UNESCO, Rest of World, MIT, NYU, Wikimedia, Jagran New Media, Prothom Alo and funded by Google, Mozilla, Wikimedia, and others. Their projects spanning 6 countries are led by youth from the global majority.
