The Challenge
Urban areas account for over 75% of global energy consumption, yet conventional wind turbines are designed for open, high-wind landscapes and cannot be deployed on rooftops or in city centres due to their size, noise, and need for consistent directional wind. At the same time, schools, public buildings, and residential developments face rising energy costs and sustainability mandates but lack viable on-site wind generation options. Solar alone is often insufficient for buildings with high energy demand. The result is that urban wind energy, one of the largest untapped renewable sources, remains almost entirely unexploited.
The Solution
Vertaxis has developed proprietary vertical-axis wind turbines manufactured using the world's largest industrial delta 3D printer. Unlike conventional horizontal turbines, Vertaxis turbines capture wind from any direction without reorientation, operate quietly at low wind speeds, and are compact enough for rooftop installation on buildings of all sizes. The turbines are paired with an AI driven remote monitoring system that integrates satellite imagery and sensor data to predict maintenance needs before failures occur, reducing downtime and extending turbine lifespan by over 5 years. This satellite enabled approach is particularly valuable for turbines in hard-to-access rooftop locations and remote wind parks where traditional on-site inspections are costly and impractical.

Dr. Yilmaz Uygun
Co-Founder & CEO
Yilmaz Uygun is a Professor of Logistics Engineering at Constructor University Bremen and a Research Affiliate at MIT. He holds dual doctorates in engineering and has over a decade of experience in additive manufacturing, renewable energy systems, and industrial logistics. He led the development of the world's largest industrial delta 3D printer and the proprietary vertical-axis wind turbine at its core. He founded NebulaForm GmbH, which was accepted into ESA BIC Northern Germany.

Serkan Ozkan, M.Sc.
Co-Founder & CTO
Serkan Ozkan is a mechanical engineer and researcher at Constructor University Bremen with deep expertise in electromechanics, renewable energy systems, and additive manufacturing. He has led the hands-on development of the Honeycomb 3D printer and the Vertaxis turbine prototypes since 2018, and co-founded NebulaForm to commercialise the technology. He oversees turbine design, production, and the technical integration of the satellite-based smart maintenance system.
