Gastric conditions such as gastroparesis and functional dyspepsia can be difficult to investigate outside specialised clinical settings. This thin, breathable electrode patch adheres gently to the abdomen and records electrical signals associated with stomach contractions as the wearer continues normal daily activities. Its fixed electrode spacing enables more consistent mapping of how these signals move across the stomach and simplifies data analysis. Designed for scalable production and unsupervised use, the device could support larger clinical studies, longer-term symptom monitoring and a better understanding of gastric disorders.

AI systems require growing amounts of computing power and electricity, and conventional processors arrange most active components across a flat chip surface and use substantial energy to move data. VolumAI X3D stacks multiple processing layers vertically, allowing calculations and information transfer across three dimensions. This increases computing density, shortens communication paths and enables intermediate data to be reused between layers. Building on demonstrated multilayer transistor and logic structures, the project is progressing towards a functional processor that could run AI models using less space and energy.

Most shoes are difficult to recycle because dozens of petrochemical parts with different properties are permanently bonded together. Vena grows bacterial cellulose from waste coconut water around a 3D-printed biodegradable scaffold. By varying the scaffold geometry, a single continuous material can be flexible where the foot bends and supportive where it bears load. Mechanical testing confirmed that its strength and stiffness can be adjusted, while factory trials in Vietnam demonstrated compatibility with existing production. The approach could reduce footwear waste and support wider applications in fashion, interiors and medicine.
