Cammino

Project Overview
About
Cammino is a wearable system that prevents falls from an occurrence known as ‘freezing of the gait’ in people suffering from Parkinson’s disease. This happens when the brain temporarily stops sending signals to the lower half of the body, leading to serious falls. Cammino monitors changes in gait using an accellerometer in the shoe. When changes are detected a Bluetooth signal activates a stimulation belt, which transmits a low frequency electrical stimulation to the muscles, to help keep the user standing. The belt also contain vibration motors that can encourage the user to walk to a regular beat and further prevent freezing.
