LiftOFF Technologies

LiftOFF Technologies

Project Overview

About

The aviation industry faces major hurdles in electrification due to battery technology limitations, including energy density and safety. LiftOFF Technologies addresses these issues with transition metal fluoride (TMF) cathodes, which store up to five times more lithium than traditional batteries and remain stable up to 1000°C, enhancing safety. By advancing synthesis and preparation methods, this innovation enables practical electric flight for short-range urban transport, paving the way for cleaner, faster, and quieter aviation solutions

University of Oxford

Lorenz, inventor of LifTOFF Technologies, holds a PhD from Oxford University and is completing his MBA at the Collège des Ingénieurs. During his PhD, he achieved a breakthrough in fluoride cathode technology, which he is now exploring for commercialization. He has (co-)authored 14 publications in leading journals, including Nature Energy, Nature Communications, and Advanced Materials. Prior to initiating LifTOFF, Lorenz conducted impactful research at ETH Zurich, MIT, and TU Munich. With experience as an R&D engineer and venture scout, and as a strategy consultant at Siemens, he combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to pioneer next-generation energy storage solutions.
