About

Eating ceviche (a South American dish of marinaded raw fish or seafood) on the beach is an important part of cultural life in Lima. However, the disposable packaging currently used by street vendors poses a threat to marine life. Runtu Laqu is a disposable packaging made of waste eggshells and alginate, a natural polymer obtained from brown algae. The combination of these two materials with water, pressure and heat creates a final product that is both rigid and water-resistant, making it ideal for containing food while being completely biodegradable.

My name is Virgilio Chiok and I am currently studying the last year of industrial design at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. I am passionate about experiencing nature up close through outdoor activities and this has always influenced the way I design, taking my projects towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach. In recent years I have developed a great interest in the direction of future design, experimenting with new materials and how these can be implemented in an industry that does not yet become aware of the negative impact of its products on the world.

Hello! My name is Cynthia Medina and I am a student of the last year of Industrial Design at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). During the last years I have developed university projects linked to minimalism, artisanal, social and ecological design. Since I was a child I have enjoyed being surrounded by nature, this has influenced my interest in ceramic design, social design, sustainable design, ecodesign and permaculture. As a designer and individual, I have the responsibility to develop projects that are friendly to the environment and its surroundings.
