About

The Smart Dual-Care Patch unites drug delivery and sensing in a single, scalable hydrogel platform. Using plasma technology to enable strong, adhesive-free bonding to solid surfaces, it supports both therapeutic action and future smart features like pressure or motion detection. Biocompatibility and efficacy have been validated using human skin models and stem cells, while the clean fabrication process avoids toxic chemicals and reduces medical waste. This patented innovation advances personalised wound care and lays the groundwork for broader biomedical applications

Masoud Zhianmanesh is an Associate Researcher in the Plasma BioEngineering Lab at the University of Newcastle. He recently completed his PhD at the University of Sydney, where he pioneered a provisionally patented technique for covalently attaching hydrogels to polymer surfaces using plasma-based surface engineering. His research spans biomedical engineering, materials science, and translational device development. Masoud has contributed to several competitive research projects funded by the University of Newcastle and the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI). His current work focuses on developing innovative wound care technologies, including the SDC Patch, which integrates drug delivery and sensing in a scalable format.
